The IT Department at NYU Langone Health needs top train their new interns in several cyber security topics. They need a centralized portal to manage all activities of their 11-week training. Part of their tasks involves demonstration of the application of the knowledge around selection of policies.
NYU Langone Health’s Cyber Security Internship Program offers interns an immersive 11-week training to develop and apply cutting edge skills alongside world-class cyber innovators and digital security leaders. The Cyber Security team deploys a multi-disciplined methodology with teams focused on IT Controls and Regulatory Compliance; Vulnerability Management; Cyber Threat Management and Incident Response; and Security Architecture and Engineering and Governance and Risk Management. These key security disciplines apply and develop creative solutions and hi-tech tools and technologies to address critical threats facing NYU Langone Health. The IT team’s mission is to safely enable NYU Langone Health to thrive and innovate in the emergent cyber world while ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of NYU Langone Health electronic data and systems.
I was involved in the project as an advisor and consultant on UX/UI, development and maintenance of the Workspace/Portal that was created to centralize all training activities, and to advice on reporting, tracking and follow-up.
Workspaces are the feature that Saba provides to create wiki-like pages and portals, where users can access and comment on its content. The created Workspace struture contains a home page with an overview of the program and a syllabus, and pages for each main component of the program:
Each session is delivered live synchronously in person or online. The content of each session is provided by each expert in the covered area within each session.
At the end of each session, the instructor provides learners with a project that they have to complete in order to demonstrate understanding of the tasks involved in each sesssion. The LMS also handles the submission and evaluation process of each task. I created a curriculum containing all the tasks, reviews and checklists necessary to complete each weekly task. The process is outlined below:
The currirulum is assigned to learners as soon as they are onboarded and enrolled in the training. The content of the curriculum reflects the sections and sessions of the Workspace where they are studying every week.
Each course in the curriculum has two activities:
